If you haven’t heard of ASOS, you may have been living under a rock. Well, come on out and let me tell you about ASOS. Amongst other online retailers, ASOS is one that I frequent because of their large selection, free shipping and great customer service.
ASOS CARRIES A LOT OF STUFF. By a lot, I mean abundance and
SALE INFORMATION: for the US site, ASOS usually has a sitewide sale for major holidays (e.g. Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labour Day..etc). If you are eyeing something and it’s close to a major holiday, you might want to wait as the price will go down. These sitewide sales are a great time to buy classic items that won’t otherwise go on sale, e.g. black/white Ultraboost sneakers, Ray-Ban aviators or logo sweats. Though if you purchase something and it goes on sale right after, you can contact ASOS customer service and they usually will refund the difference back to you
WHAT I BUY. On ASOS, I stick to what I know and what I am familiar with, and that would be the ASOS brands (e.g. ASOS DESIGN AND ASOS PETITE). ASOS makes great coats at very good price points, especially when they go on sale. For sweaters, I must say their quality is not the best out of all fast fashion brands. But they do have cute styles and I am a sucker for those. One other thing I love buying at ASOS is dresses. ASOS dresses are petite friendly (i.e. short torso and length) so no hemming required.
LET’S TALK ABOUT CURRENCY. ASOS is an international website, depending on where you are in the world, you have different currencies to make purchases. For example, on the Canadian site, I can choose to shop in CAD, USD or GBP. When you’ve decide on an item, it’s worth taking that extra few minutes to look at prices in currencies. Because of currency exchange rates, for the same item, some currencies might be cheaper or more expensive than others.
Are you ready for some math?
Today’s exchange rate shows that £1 equals to C$ 1.70 and £1
HATE MATH? There is an app (website) for that. ASOS Price Checker is a website that tells you which country and currency you can find the lowest price for an item on ASOS. I personally don’t use this website as I find it a little overwhelming so I do my own calculation between CAD, GBP and EURO.
One other thing you’d have to take in consideration is credit card fees. Remember to check your credit card issuer to see what types of fees they charge for foreign currencies/transactions.
SHIPPING AND DUTY. I am lucky that I live close to the US/CA border so I always ship my packages to my US mailing address for pickup. I avoid paying extra taxes and duties this way. For Europe and US customers, you can sign up for premium delivery where you pay $19.00, £9.95 or €15.00 and get one year of free next-day /two-day shipping. The currency trick I mentioned above also applies to the premium delivery. For Canadian customers, please note that our purchases are subjected to duties and tax, which can add up. ASOS realized how much more Canadian customers are paying in duties so they gave us a promo code CA15 to 15% off for all Canadian orders. This should alleviate some pain from paying extra duties.
Does this post help in navigate ASOS site? I hope it does. Do you guys have any other questions about ASOS? Let me know in the comments or come hit me up in IG. I love shopping so I am happy to answer all your questions.
